Crawley boss Steve Evans believes his side will be in better shape to continue their FA Trophy run when the competition resumes next month.

Evans will make the long trip to Cornwall tonight to spy on their second-round opponents after his side were drawn away to the winners of the replay between Southern League Truro City and Blue Square south Chelmsford on January 9.

By then he should have a fully fit squad and could also have top scorer Jefferson Louis back from his loan spell at Rushden and Diamonds.

Sussex’s other representatives in the second round both face tough away games.

Eastbourne Borough travel to Cambridge United in an all-Conference clash while Lewes will go to another Blue Square premier side, Kidderminster, if they win tomorrow’s replay at home to Hampton & Richmond.

Reds continued their recent improvement with a second successive away win last Saturday when they won 3-2 at Bashley.

Evans said: “In the last four or five weeks the boys have done tremendously well when we’ve been devastated by injuries and some of our play in the last two games has been back at the level it was in pre-season.

“We’ll keep working on that and if we get a little bit of luck with injuries then who knows.

“On Saturday we were able to keep Karl Broadhurst on the bench because we didn’t want to upset what had happened at Tamworth when (Adam) Quinn and (Glenn) Wilson were very good in defence and we’ve got players who are desperate to come in.”
