GUS POYET has called for a bit of compromise to ease the festive football workload.

The Albion boss is preparing his side for two games in three days, followed by an FA Cup tie at Torquay on January 2.

Asked what he made of the schedule, he admitted: “I’m in favour of changing it, having a break, going to spend Christmas with the family.

“But I know it’s tradition so I’d like us to go 50/50. Play Boxing Day, not Monday.

“What I know is that Boxing Day is tradition. The 28th? Is that tradition as well? No!

“The 2nd of January is tradition as well? No! So let’s play Boxing Day, then have a break.”

Poyet, pictured, has bad memories of December 26, 1998, when he suffered cruciate ligament damage playing for Chelsea at Southampton.

He admitted: “One of my biggest injuries was on Boxing Day so it’s not a big day for me. But I understand why it is so important for England so I have to adapt to the country I’m living in.”

Albion have lost all three of their Boxing Day games since being relegated to League One in 2006.
