Peacehaven have no intentions of throwing in the towel as they kept the pressure on the top two in the race for the division one title.

With leaders Chichester losing and favourites Whitehawk only picking up a point, Peacehaven closed the gap as they came from behind to beat bottom side East Grinstead at home.

The visitors had taken the lead in the first half but Ryan Smith levelled in the 57th minute and Lee Newman grabbed the winner from the penalty spot before missing a second penalty late on.

The result means Peacehaven are now 11 points behind Chichester, but with three games in hand, and eight behind Whitehawk who have played two matches less.

Assistant manager Shaun Saunders said: “Our aim this season was to survive and have a good cup run but we have made one final, one semi-final and one quarter-final and are third in the league.

“Whatever happens we are over the moon but we will keep on pushing as hard as we can in the league. Other results went our way on Saturday but it is hard to see Whitehawk having too many more blips.

“It is a four-horse race for second place though and we are definitely in the mix for that. East Grinstead were well organised and I’m sure they will start climbing the table soon but we did well to turn it around after falling behind.”

Whitehawk remain the team to stop despite being held to a goalless draw by Three Bridges at East Brighton Park.

Bridges boss Paul Faili said: “It was a fantastic result. Any team in the league would take a goalless draw at Whitehawk and the pleasing thing was that was our fifth clean sheet in a row when we were conceding goals for fun earlier in the season.”

Redhill boosted their hopes of promotion as they toppled leaders Chichester 2-0 at home.

Chris May made an excellent double save from Adrian Brockway’s penalty in the first half after Daniel Morris had given the Lobsters the lead and Morris wrapped it up with a spot-kick after the break before Chichester were reduced to ten men.

Redhill boss Marcus Alcindor said: “It is going to be tough to finish in the top two but this was a big step in the right direction. If the teams above us take their eye off the ball we need to be ready to take advantage.”

Defending champions Eastbourne United lost further ground as they went down 2-0 at Selsey. Greg Robinson opened the scoring in the 17th minute and Rob Wimble scored from the spot just after half-time.

Ringmer won the big clash at the bottom of the table as first-half goals from Kieran Patel and Dave Altendorf secured a 2-0 win at home against fellow strugglers Mile Oak.

Joint boss Steve Oliver said: “We’ve turned a mini corner but we’ve got to keep it going now. I’m sure we’ll finish out of the bottom three if we keep performing like that.”

Pagham remain in the relegation zone despite a 1-1 draw at home to Hassocks. Michael Franguo gave the hosts the lead after Brett Forden had missed a penalty in the first half but Sam Jeremiah equalised.

Lingfield pulled clear of danger as Adrian Dalehouse scored twice in a 3-0 win over St Francis Rangers while Crowborough continued their revival as they came from behind to beat Hailsham with ten men.

John Trotter was sent off midway through the first half but Sam Carrington (two) and Charlie Ottway were on target to wrap up a 3-1 win.

Boss Dave Adams said: “The sending-off proved a blessing in disguise. We weren’t at the races in the first 20 minutes but when we went down to ten men we realised we had to work harder and keep the ball better.”

Scott Murfin scored a hat-trick as Wick booked their place in the semi-finals of the RUR Cup with a 3-2 win at home to Shoreham.
