Crawley boss Steve Evans says he would be foolish not to try to sign goalkeeper Michel Kuipers but only if he decided to remain full-time.

Kuipers, 35 is considering his options after being released by Albion which include the offer of a non-playing role with the Seagulls.

Crawley would love to sign him but would not be prepared for Kuipers to play on a part-time basis in order to work for Albion at the same time.

Evans worked with the Dutchman when he was manager of Boston United where Kuipers played 15 games during a three-month loan spell in 2005-06.

The Reds boss said: “He was outstanding for us and I have kept in touch with him. He is a great lad but he has to make a decision about what he wants to do in respect of the role Brighton have offered him.

“I have no doubt in my mind he will get offers from Football League clubs but he won’t be playing part-time with us, we don’t have part-time players.

“If Michel is serious about coming to Crawley he will be in touch because we speak most weeks.

“If he did say he wanted to play for us we would be foolish not to have an interest in him. Kuipers is top class but anyone who thinks he will be popping along to Crawley Town on a part-time basis is mistaken.”

Three players – striker Danny Forrest and midfielders Lewis Killeen and Michael Malcolm – are leaving Crawley after turning down the offer of new one-year contracts.

Evans said: “Michael thinks he can get a better deal elsewhere and we wish him well. Lewis is moving to Sheffield and will only play part-time and Danny has had two years with us and wants to go back to Bradford. They have all been done good jobs for us and we wish them well.”

Evans will start his squad strengthening next week and hopes to sign six or seven players.
