Albion's travelling army of fans will be left out in the cold by one of their League One opponents.

Bournemouth have revealed controversial plans to treat away supporters differently from their own at Dean Court.

The Cherries are erecting temporary seating at the south end of the ground in anticipation of bigger crowds following promotion from League Two.

The 1,000-plus capacity structure will be used for home fans when the weather is good but away supporters will be dumped there in the wet and cold.

Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell said: “It is going to be uncovered so, depending on the weather, we will try to push the away supporters down there when it is forecast to be gloomy.

“We won’t be putting our fans there when it is raining but, if it is fine, we would like them behind both goals.

“I am sure other clubs won’t want to help us in any way so that is our plan. If it is tipping with rain or snowing, the away fans will be there.”

Albion fans are likely to find themselves exposed to the elements, since they visit Bournemouth on January 22.

The scheme has enraged loyal Seagulls supporter Howie Blanks. The Withdean season ticket holder told The Argus: “I’m not impressed with that.

“It's ridiculous, you cannot treat away fans differently from home fans. They are treating people without respect.”

Away fans at Withdean have to endure both uncovered seating and a distant view from the west end of the stadium but the majority of home supporters also have no cover and Blanks believes it is a different situation.

He said: “It’s not ideal but it's a means to an end. The club hasn’t put them there because they are away fans.

“It was purpose built, with their own entrance, to keep them separate from the home supporters.”
