Matej Zagar compeleted a brilliant five-ride full maximum as Eastbourne beat Ipswich 50-42 at Arlington.

The result ensures Eagles cannot come bottom of the Elite League and condemns the Suffolk outfit to a promotion/relegation play-off.

Eagles led 30-17 after eight races but errors and mechanical problems let a dogged Ipswich side back into the contest.

The visitors cut arrears to four going into heat 13 and again ahead of the last race.

But Zagar sped well clear in heat 15 and Joonas Kylmakorpi fended off ex-Eagles star Scott Nicholls to complete the 5-1 which gave Eastbourne maximum points.

The Arlington outfit have now won 11 out of the last 12 on home shale.

Their only remaining home league fixture, against Wolverhampton, has been re-scheduled for Thursday, September 16.

Eagles: Zagar 15 (5), Kylmakorpi 10+1 (5), Woodward 9+1 (4), Jedrzejak 5+1 (4), Gustafsson 4 (4), Kling 4 (5), Schramm 3+2 (3).

Ipswich: Miskowiak 10^ (4), Nicholls 9 (5), King 9 (5), Smith 7+1 (7), Dryml 4+1 (4), Stachyra 2+1 (4), Slabon 1+1 (2).
