Albion boss Gus Poyet has vowed there will be no repeat of the contract wrangling which prompted the departure of former captain Nicky Forster.

Poyet fell out with Forster last season over the veteran striker’s demands for a new deal, as the Seagulls continued to fight off the threat of relegation.

The row ended with Forster not being offered a new contract and moving to Brentford.

Poyet does not envisage any similar problems this time, with Albion transformed into table-toppers under his leadership.

He told The Argus: “We have started discussing things already, without talking directly to the players yet.

“In January I will probably start talking to the players on a very individual basis, then you need to manage it. I hope we can manage it very well. I am sure there won’t be any problems or issues like last year."
