Crawley boss Steve Evans believes Luton are their main rivals for the Conference title.

Reds go into the holiday programme in second place, a point behind AFC Wimbledon, with Luton a further point back in third although both their rivals have played a game more than Crawley, who still have to play both teams at home.

But it is the Hatters, whom Reds beat 2-1 at Kenilworth Road in October, that Evans fears most – although he insists his side are good enough to be champions.

He said: “I think it will be between us and Luton and that it will go to the wire. Wimbledon will stay up there but they will finish third. Luton are full of good players though.

“We have one or two areas that we need to improve and we are looking to address that in the transfer window. But they will have to be just as good or better than the players we already have here. That has to be the benchmark. We need competition for places but if we can get an extra 10% from everyone I think we will be champions.”
