Top scorer Matt Tubbs insists he is ignoring speculation about a big-money move from Crawley during the transfer window.

The 26-year-old hopes to add to his 17 goals when Reds play their first game for 19 days in the Sussex derby against Eastbourne Borough tomorrow.

There has been speculation that Championship promotion-chasers Leeds United are preparing a bid for the league’s top scorer and Tubbs will put himself in the shop window again when another Championship side, Derby County, visit the Broadfield in the third round of the FA Cup on January 10.

But rumours linking him with a transfer is nothing new for a player with as consistent a goal-scoring record during his non-league career as Tubbs.

He said: “When I was younger I used to get really excited about the transfer window but the big move never came and now I just ignore it.

“If (manager) Steve Evans comes to me and says we have had a bid from a club then I will believe it but at the moment I’m assuming no one has been in touch.

“Without getting big-headed, my name seems to be interesting this club or that every transfer window. As I’ve got older I’ve learned to just concentrate on my football and ignore it.

“If it happens it happens. I’m happy at Crawley and wouldn’t want to leave to go to just anywhere. I think we have a squad that is better than most in League Two and I know this club has the ambition to be in the Football League.

“All I can do is keep scoring goals and let other people talk about me.”
