Matt Tubbs took his tally for the season to 24 with two goals as Crawley returned to the top of the Blue Square Bet premier with a 2-0 win at Bath City.

AFC Wimbledon were held to a 1-1 draw at Fleetwood so Reds moved a point clear with three games in hand.

Tubbs had already gone close with a shot which flashed across the face of goal when he struck on ten minutes, pouncing from close range after Gethin Jones had only cleared Richard Brodie’s drive to Tubbs three yards out.

For the opening third of the contest Reds were in control but they then started to give the ball away cheaply and twice before the break Bath squandered good opportunities.

Adie Harris headed Marc Canham’s deep cross wide of the far post and nine minutes before the break Kaif Mohamed fired over from eight yards after Adam Connolly had teed him up.

Ben Smith failed to test keeper Carl Pentney on the hour but it was a rare moment of alarm for the hosts who then forced two good saves out of Michel Kuipers midway through the second half.

On 64 minutes the former Albion keeper got down well to his left to keep out Canham’s powerful free kick and he did even better four minutes later with a double save to deny Sido Jombati.

Those saves were made to look even more important when Tubbs struck again ten minutes from time. Dean Howell’s throw found him in space and he turned to smash a right-foot shot past Pentney.

Manager Steve Evans said: "This is a difficult place to come but have dug a result out and it is performances like this which wins you titles.” Full report and reaction in tomorrow's Argus
