No Crawley striker has a better record of success against Torquay than Jamie Cook.

The 31-year-old scored twice in three appearances against the Gulls during his first spell with Reds including the winner at Plainmoor in 2008.

Cook will have to settle for a place on the bench when they return today looking to reach the FA Cup fifth round for the first time.

But he believes he can make an impact if boss Steve Evans gives him an opportunity.

Cook made his first league appearance since November 20 against Cambridge United on Tuesday and scored his first goal of the season within five minutes of coming on.

He had endured a miserable start to his second spell at the club and spent nearly three months out with an ankle injury.

And since regaining his fitness he has struggled to dislodge Matt Tubbs (24 goals), Craig McAllister (15) and Richard Brodie (8).

He said: “It has been very frustrating. I’ve only been coming on for a couple of minutes so it was nice to get a bit longer on Tuesday and show people that I’m still around.

“I have been feeling really sharp and as fit as I’ve ever been. I feel if I do get a chance I’ll be ready to take it.”

Reds have won their last three league games against Torquay and Cook says they head to Devon today full of confidence.

“As a club we have done well against them in the past and I’ve got a good record too,” he added. “I don’t think we’re expected to win and we know it will be tough but we are good enough to get a result.

“We’ll enjoy it and then look to push on in the league. I got promoted with Oxford last year and this squad is far better with a great work ethic. Promotion is what it’s all about and I want to play my part but we don’t want the FA Cup run to end yet.”
