Liam Bridcutt scored with a screaming volley in the third minute of stoppage time to earn Albion an thrilling 4-3 win at home to Carlisle.

The visitors looked like they had snatched a point when they scored in the 92nd minute but Bridcutt responded immediately to keep the Seagulls on course for the Championship.

It was the worst possible start for Albion as they fell behind in just the third minute when Tom Taiwo fired home from the edge of the box after the Seagulls failed to clear a corner.

Albion responded positively with Glenn Murray sidefooting against the crossbar on eight minutes from Gary Dicker's clever free-kick and then nodding past an upright from a good position before Craig Noone's shot was palmed away by keeper Adam Collin.

The equaliser deservedly came on 23 minutes when Ashley Barnes poked the ball through for Murray to beat the offside trap and ran on to fire past Collin for his 17th goal of the season.

Albion picked up where they had left off at the start of the second half. Marcos Painter had a right-footed shot pushed away, then Gordon Greer and Tommy Elphick squandered good headed opportunities.

The second goal arrived following another lovely move on 53 minutes which ended with Liam Bridcutt playing in Barnes to run on and poke home low past Collin.

But the lead lasted just seven minutes as Ben Marshall danced through the Albion defence before planting a low shot into the bottom corner.

Again Albion responded positively, going 3-2 ahead on 63 minutes when Barnes controlled Greer's through ball before firing home via the left-hand post.

The action was far from over, Ankergren saved Peter Murphy's 20-yard shot but was beaten in the second minute of stoppage time when substitute Harry Arter lashed home after some poor defending.

But Bridcutt had the last word with a goal fit to decide any game.
