MATT TUBBS has a warning for Eastbourne Borough ahead of tonight’s clash at Priory Lane – he has no intention of easing back now he has passed 30 league goals for the season.

The Crawley hot-shot was on target in Friday’s 3-1 win over AFC Wimbledon which has made Reds overwhelming favourites to win promotion to the Football League.

They are nine points clear of Wimbledon, with four games in hand, and 14 ahead of Luton Town in third, who do have a game more to play and visit the Broadfield on April 12.

League sponsors Blue Square are so confident that Steve Evans’ men will win the title that they are already paying out to punters who backed them at the start of the season, some of whom got odds of 33-1.

Tubbs, 26, has played a big part with 33 goals in total, just one fewer than he scored for Salisbury City last season with 11 games remaining.

He will be looking to add to that tally tonight against relegation threatened Borough and said: “To score 30 league goals is fantastic. At the start of the season my target was just to hit ten. “Then it was 15. I have managed to keep scoring and more importantly our team has gone from strength to strength.

“We are still not talking about the title in the dressing room but it was a massive result against Wimbledon. The gaffer doesn’t want it discussed and it is our job to keep on picking up points until it is done and hopefully in the next month we will sew it up.”

Reds go to Priory Lane tonight looking to extend their unbeaten league run to 20 games and Tubbs expects as hard a game as the one against Wimbledon.

He said: “They are fighting for their lives so it is another difficult game but we believe with the players we have that we can go anywhere and get a result.

“We have beaten some top sides away from home such as Luton and the team spirit at the moment is superb.”

Reds are without suspended trio Dannie Bulman, Richard Brodie and Kyle McFadzean so defenders John Dempster and Simon Rusk are both added to the squad.

Gary Elphick faces a fitness test for Borough after limping off against Barrow on his comeback from injury while Matt Crabb is doubtful with a knee problem. Nathan Crabb has an adductor strain while Matt Langston and Ross Treleaven remain sidelined.
