Gus Poyet praised the patience of his Albion side as they ground out another nailbiting win and clean sheet.

The Seagulls made it six victories in a row as they saw off stubborn Notts County 1-0 on a tense night at Withdean.

Inigo Calderon grabbed the winner and a further buzz went around the ground when news filtered through of Charlton's equaliser against Southampton.

The Seagulls have made a habit of winning by the odd goal of late but Poyet said: "I thought we played better today.

"People don't realise it is has been very difficult lately to play against these teams.

"They close the spaces down, they try to make it difficult and you need to take the game into your own hands.

"It's about you. It's about concentrating, being organised and making sure you don't make any mistakes at the back.

"As soon as you go forward and do something wrong, you take a risk.

"We asked the players to believe and the way we play sooner or later we will have a chance and we will score.

"Sometimes when it's early, it's easier. But I was convinced we would score so the idea was to keep it organised."

County boss Paul Ince left Withdean convinced his side should have had a late penalty for handball against Tommy Elphick.

The ball struck an unwitting Elphick on the back of the arm as he was thrown off balance in a goalmouth skirmish.

Ince spoke to the match officials about the incident as they left the stadium and assistant boss Alex Rae visited the press area carrying a laptop to show reporters footage of the incident.
