Liam Bridcutt has urged Albion’s crocked top scorer Glenn Murray to follow his example by signing a new contract.

Bridcutt and fellow midfielder Gary Dicker have penned new two-year deals with the League One champions.

Rookie Norwegian striker Torbjorn Agdestein has also been awarded a one-year extension but injured Murray is out of contract at the end of the campaign.

Speculation remains intense over the future of the marksman, who misses tomorrow’s last ever game at Withdean against Huddersfield and Albion’s final match at Notts County on May 7 with a damaged left shoulder.

Bridcutt told The Argus: “It would be good for Glenn to be here with us next season. He has been brilliant for us this season.

“He has scored 22 goals. It’s hard to get goals in this league but he’s done it in spectacular style really.

“He’s a great player, a great person. All the boys would love him to sign but at the end of the day he has got to look after himself and his family. If he wants to go somewhere else he is in a good position.

“You never know what is out there for him but all the boys really want him to sign.”

Murray hurt his shoulder in last Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat by Southampton. A scan has revealed no serious damage but manager Gus Poyet said: “He won’t be ready for the last two games.

“It’s just a precaution. We’ll rest him for three or four weeks.”

Chris Wood is likely to deputise for Murray and captain Gordon Greer returns to the centre of defence following a four-match ban.

Bridcutt will also return to the side after he was rested to the bench for Monday’s 1-1 draw at Colchester.

“It was one of my goals when I first signed here, to get a longer deal, and I’ve done that,” said the former Chelsea playmaker. “I have been rewarded for my hard work. All I’ve got to do now is settle down and think about my future and look forward to next season.

“There was no hesitation from me really. I want to be here as long as I can. I can see what Gus has done here is brilliant. It’s a big club on the way up, so I was more than happy to sign.”
