Albion’s senior players can expect to see a lot of The Amex this summer, despite only having one first team friendly at their new home.

The Seagulls host Tottenham in a prestigious run-out on Saturday, July 30, two weeks after the development squad have taken on Eastbourne Borough in the final of the Sussex Senior Cup.

Boss Gus Poyet said: “We won’t have any more home friendlies but we will be training there a lot to get used to it.

“The Tottenham game is great for the club. There are plenty of Spurs fans down here in Brighton and the south so they will look forward to it as well.”

Spurs expect their star winger Gareth Bale to be fit for the pre-season programme after a scan yesterday revealed he ruptured ankle ligaments in the 1-1 draw with Blackpool on Saturday.

Tottenham might not be preparing for European football when they head to The Amex. They slipped out of the Europa League place last night as Liverpool won 5-2 at Fulham to go fifth in the Premier League.

Ashley Barnes has set his heart on kicking off the Amex era as a starter for Albion but admits he faces a battle, despite his 20 goals this season. Barnes reached the 20 mark when he put the Seagulls ahead at Notts County on Saturday with his fifth goal in six games.

He headed off for a summer break admitting: "I'm going to work hard over the summer because I want to be playing in the first game at The Amex.

"I know everybody will be doing the same. Everyone will be battling for places."

Albion can look forward to returning to impressive venues such as Leicester, Derby and Leeds and could face a short trip to current Premier League strugglers West Ham.

Barnes, though, insists he has not earmarked any specific Championship fixture.

He said: "I'm looking forward to every game in that division.

"It's a fantastic achievement to get that far and we've done it.

"Now we want to crack on and get to the Premier League."
