Eastbourne could bring Saturday afternoon racing to Arlington in a bid to avoid fixture congestion.

The Elite League leaders are determined to head off a repeat of last Saturday’s fiasco, which saw them lose three riders to international events and surrender their treasured perform home record to King’s Lynn.

Joonas Kylmakorpi missed the Stars’ visit due to a World Team Cup meeting while Lukas Dryml and Simon Gustafsson were away attempting to qualify for next year’s Grand Prix series.

Dryml and Gustafsson both went through, which was great news for them but not so good for their club.

The three GP qualifying semi-finals are all scheduled for Saturday, July 2, the day Eagles host Coventry.

Should either of the Eastbourne riders get through to the final, they would miss Coventry’s second visit of the season on August 20.

Gustafsson is also involved in the World Under-21 Championship, which is held at weekends, and, like Dryml, retains an interest in the European Championship.

Ideally Dryml would also love to join his brother Ales in defending their European Pairs title.

Eagles ruled out all 11 Grand Prix Saturdays when they drew up their fixture list to avoid a clash with live television coverage of the sport’s showcase competition.

Now they admit they might reschedule to those days as they look to avoid dates when they would be missing riders.

Co-promoter Trevor Geer said: “If we are going to run into similar problems to those we faced on Saturday then we would reschedule.

“That was the reason we lost the meeting. We had half a team missing.

“One thought we have is running on Saturday afternoons on GP days.

“An early start gives people time to watch the GP in the evening.

“Those GPs on TV are a big draw for people. We have seen how popular they are in the past when we have run against them.

“But we definitely want to avoid running when we are missing two or three riders.”

Eagles have yet to find a new date for the visit of Swindon, which was abandoned recently.

Dryml was critical of the club’s decision to run in the absence of three regulars.

The Czech star said: “I’m fed up about it. We are working hard in every meeting home and away to get Eastbourne to the top of the league.

“They knew they would be missing riders on Saturday and they could have called the meeting off or run on Friday night.

“We have built a great team spirit at Eastbourne but things like this don’t help it.”

Geer responded: “I can understand what he is saying but we discussed it a lot beforehand.

“We didn’t want to run with half a team but we didn’t have an alternative at the time.”

Eagles’ options for running on week nights are limited with stock cars racing on Wednesdays.

They are loathed to move away from Saturdays after their financially disastrous attempts to go away from weekends in the past.

The World Cup, which runs from Saturday to Saturday in July, wipes out two of their race nights while rival clubs only lose one.
