Grant Hall has been praised by boss Gus Poyet after a promising full debut for Albion.

But the manager has advised those close to the rookie defender not to get carried away by his rise to the first team ranks.

Poyet was delighted with the way Hall performed at centre-half in Saturday’s 1-1 FA Cup draw against Wrexham at The Amex.

The 20-year-old’s composed display in a makeshift back four followed a second half run-out against Southampton five days earlier.

Poyet told The Argus: “I think he was very good. I was very pleased with him. I think it was very interesting the way he performed and adapted to the game.

“Saying that, I would stay calm if I was anyone connected to Grant. He played for half-an-hour against Southampton when we were eleven v ten and then 90 minutes against Wrexham, with all respect to Wrexham, so we’ll see.”

Hall partnered versatile Frenchman Romain Vincelot against the Conference leaders. He is in contention to start again against Bristol City at The Amex on Saturday, even though Lewis Dunk is available after a two-match suspension.

Dunk is sure to return to the centre of defence but Adam El-Abd pulled out of the Wrexham game with a hamstring niggle in training.

Poyet has the option of switching Hall or Vincelot to left-back in place of development squad prospect Ben Sampayo.

Skipper Gordon Greer serves the second of a three-match ban, while fullbacks Mauricio Taricco and Marcos Painter have both been sidelined by hamstring problems.
