Outgoing Crawley boss Steve Evans insists it would be unfair if Pablo Mills was hit with an extra ban for his part in the Battle of Bradford.

Mills serves the third and final game of a three-match suspension for being sent off at Valley Parade when Reds travel to Barnet today.

The defender appears at a disciplinary commission tomorrow to defend himself against a further FA charge of violent conduct.

Mills could potentially be hit with a further three-game ban after being identified as the main culprit in the ugly brawl which followed Crawley’s 2-1 win at Bradford two weeks ago. But Evans said: “I hope he (Mills) gets reprimanded but I question whether an additional charge is appropriate.

“I don’t think he should be there anyway. If you are in a melee you’re in a melee. Why should Pablo be singled out?

“I can never endorse what happened but their goalkeeper (Jon McLaughlin) has run 70 yards to punch Pablo and Pablo is perhaps going to get more than three games and the goalie gets three games. I don’t think that is right.

“One thing I do know is that the commission will make a decision with real integrity and if that happens Pablo will be back for Saturday.”

Evans reiterated his belief that Crawley have been harshly treated following the events at Valley Parade in comparison with Bradford.

The Bantams had three players sent off – McLaughlin, Luke Oliver and Andrew Davies – while Crawley had two – Mills and Claude Davis.

Mills and fellow Reds defender Kyle McFadzean were subsequently charged with violent conduct while Bradford escaped further punishment.

Evans, speaking before his departure to take charge at Rotherham, added: “The word agenda comes to mind. Everyone must look at the DVD and shake their heads.

“I will invite anyone to look at that footage and see who did what.

Who was trying to walk away from situations?

“Perhaps it is because it is Crawley. We are doing all right in League Two and they might not want us in League One.”
