Poyet hopeful about defensive duo
10:22am Thursday 15th November 2012 in Albion By Andy Naylor
Wayne Bridge has been to Germany for tests
Albion boss Gus Poyet is hopeful two of his key defenders will give him a birthday present by proving their fitness for Huddersfield.
Wayne Bridge (calf) and Adam El-Abd (hamstring) are both fighting to be available for Saturday's trip to Yorkshire.
El-Abd caught Poyet's eye in training at The Amex yesterday, while Bridge has been to Germany with club doctor Helge Riepenhof.
Poyet, 45 today, said: "Adam El-Abd was non-stop, running around the pitch, sprinting, jumping. Every time you looked he was doing something, so he looks fit to me. Whether the medical staff agree with me or not could be different.
"We went through a full test with Wayne. We took him to Germany with the doc. We checked also the problem he's had in the past, because we had the opportunity. We'll see. I've got a good feeling but it's not about my feelings, it's about them."
Poyet said it is too early to open talks with on-loan Bridge about staying with the Seagulls beyond the end of the season.
* Full story in tomorrow's Argus, plus why Poyet wants the loan system changed.

I don't think any other championship team could lure him away, I think he is having fun and enjoying his time with us, USA money might be the problem.
Kean came over here to LA Galaxy and has had a great season, and is making good wages. Beckham may do one more year with Galaxy and there is certainly a space for Bridge too. I don't know how long Bridge has left on his Man City contract, if it's one year then he might see that out with us before any move overseas.

When the time comes to negotiate with Bridge regarding a new contract, be it a loan deal with Man City or an outright purchase, it is not going to be easy.

If I am correct he will then be free to join whoever he wants and Man City would not receive any fee.

Curious that the Albion are taking care of WB's treatment and, one might therefore assume, paying for it. Normally loanees return to their parent clubs for any treatment. Can one assume that City have washed their hands of WB, a situation which would possibly make a further contract a little easier to negotiate if and whenever the situation arose. Fingers crossed - he really is an asset.
He is certain to be looking for a new club in the summer, it could be us if we are promoted but slim to no chance of him signing for us in the Championship, I am sure he will have offers from the Prem.

I guess it might be that one of the lower prem teams might come in for him, but those above half way, I doubt it.
Clubs such as Reading and Southampton could certainly use him but I doubt he would go to them. Bridge has let it be known how much he is enjoying his football with us, and I think that enjoyment stems from the fact that he is a big part of a solid back five. For Bridge to go to a team fighting against the drop wouldn't be fun it would be a fight for survival and there is no fun in that.
My best guess would be a one year deal with us and then off over the pond. .

I see he (Bridge) is in the Daily Mail football page today. Seems like they are making a big deal about him holding a packs of cigs. Must be hungry for news. They did touch on his 'status' though. Here's the link if anyone's interested:
