Vicente is best off the bench
9:30am Tuesday 12th February 2013 in Albion By Andy Naylor
Vicente started the game at Blackburn three weeks ago
Vicente has been urged to carry on being a supersub until he gets fitter.
The injury-plagued Spanish playmaker came off the bench to score Albion’s late free-kick winner against Hull at The Amex on Saturday.
He made his only Championship start of the season in the 1-1 draw at Blackburn Rovers three weeks ago but assistant manager Mauricio Taricco believes Vicente would be better off staying as an impact substitute in the return clash tonight.
Taricco said: “It’s difficult because, as we all know, he is a quality player.
“In my opinion he needs to be a little bit fitter, physically a bit stronger to cope with 90 minutes.
“If I was him I would prefer to come on in the last 35 minutes, because the opposition is tired and fresh and normally, depending on the score at the time, he has got a great opportunity to be what he was the other day.
“He scored the goal, made a few nice passes, got the headlines, so if I was him I would probably prefer to come on.
“He could play from the first minute and do what he did in the last 35 in the first 35. Then that opens up the game for you and it can work out well anyway. It’s a tricky decision for us. We want him on the pitch but we don’t want to burn him so we are trying to manage it the best way we can.”
Taricco is desperate to follow up the Hull result with another victory against relegated Rovers, who have risen almost unnoticed into the play-off picture themselves in a turbulent season.
He said: “There is no question that if we want to try to nick a place in the play-offs it’s about winning and winning and winning.
“We are nearly there but you need to think that Middlesbrough have lost their last five games and they are still in the play-offs. They should have a good run, so you need an even better run to get there.
“It’s up to us. There are a lot of games to play but we need to get better and more consistent in terms of results, not performance.”

To all his doubters, does that sound like someone who doesn't want to play, someone whose head is all wrong?

Lets hope we can keep it at least to 0-0 up to the hour mark tonight then so he can come on and win it again. Or is this all part of a cunning plan to put Blackburn off the scent?!
2 up front and Vicente off the bench could actually be Vicente starting off of Ulloa and Buckley flying down the wing!

Hoskins cannot prove his worth as so many cry about if he is stuck on the bench. With regard to the first part I am curious as to whether Vicente would go back (with absolutely no disrespect to La Liga) if the Albion went up. He has done La Liga, got the t-shirt etc... but he hasn't been near the PL and that may be oh so tempting... Fingers crossed.
Probably best for Vicente to carry on as a sub.tonight, then he's got a week to get fitter before the Cardiff match.Enjoy him while you can,Elche are top of the Spanish 2nd division and look sure to go up,so could be Vicente's future club.I hope Hoskins and Buckley get more time on the pitch,Hammond and MackailSmith are clearly the weak links.

There is a bit snag, of course. How can Vicnete put the ball at the feet of a tiring Ulloa. Ulloa cannot last the full 90 minutes either. I want to see them on the pitch at full throttle together. This problem is amplified in the absence of Barnes. Vicnete is better with wide outlets in the presence of Buckley or LuaLua as well.

Lets get Adam into Rhodes tonight, sneaky elbow onto his recently repaired broken nose might just put him off slightly. Last time I saw Blackburn was at the Goldstone, Sam Aladyce was playing centre half, who according to the Sun Gus will be replacing at West Ham in the summer, and we won 2-0. That will do for tonight! UTA!

Vicente linked up very well with KLL last season and seemed to be on a natural wavelength. Would like to see them on together at some point.
When playing together they offer the team a welcome injection of pace and the potential to split the oppostion defence with ease.

I'm rather hoping we'll be 2 or 3 goals up in 60 mins. Hasn't that been the problem this season, not scoring in the first alf and opening up a lead. WE are the home team and the onus is on us not only to win but to win well because GD might come into the equation at the end of the season.

Whats with all these comments about keeping it at 0 v 0 for 60 mins and then bring Vicente on ? I'm rather hoping we'll be 2 or 3 goals up in 60 mins. I'd start him and try to get a lead to hang onto when he has gone off. The pace of LuaLua & Buckley would still be a threat against tiring players if needed but hopefully The Dagger will have destroyed them by then!
I'd go back to one up top. With Buckley in for CMS and Vicente in for Orlandi. Keep the rest as it was on Saturday. If Gus continues with 2 up top as he says, just Vicente in for Orlandi from Saturday.

There has to be a time when Vicente starts but I think he accepts that he is not as yet 100% match fit. It would seem to me, and I will have to rely on you guys that see the team play more than I do, that Orlandi would be the one to miss out to make way for Vicente to start. I am not sure that I like that idea.
With a lone striker it would be much easier to bring Vicente in but I don't want to go back to that.
Would it be a totally off the wall suggestion if I said, how about starting Vicente with Ulloa? Not today, but maybe in the near future.

I think if we play two forward,it MIGHT,help keep the play up their end away from Rhodes. But of course they have Kazim Richards and DJ Campbell,so it is going to be very tough for Gus to get it right tonight. If your going Tinker i hope you enjoy the game. UTA

Hiya Vegas im going with a 2-1 win for the Albion. Some very sad news on Bobby Z the poor guy can now only play 45 mins tops, and then can't walk for three days after without pain. All this at just 32.Looks like he will be out the game between 8 or 12mths at the end of the season.Real shame his a top guy on and off the pitch.
Yes very sad to hear about Booby Z, hopefuly it is a known condition that can be treated rather than his body simply wearing out.
Tonight is a big night Freeloader, I trust that you are as excited about it as I am.
