Albion striker Ashley Barnes has been given a seven-match ban by the FA for trying to trip referee Nigel Miller in last Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Bolton.

The FA have slapped an extra three games on Barnes' initial punishment, due to the serious nature of his red card offence.

Barnes had already received a four-match suspension, three for his dismissal by Miller and one because he had already been sent-off this season in his previous start at Sheffield Wednesday.

His ban began with Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at Barnsley, so he will miss the next six games.

Barnes will now only be available for the final three fixtures of the Seagulls' Championship promotion run-in, beginning at home to Blackpool on April 20.
