Albion are one home win away from Wembley after battling out a 0-0 play-off draw at Crystal Palace tonight.

But they had to endure some nervous second-half moments in the first leg of their Championship semi-final.

The sides will settle the tie at The Amex on Monday but Palace will be without top scorer Glenn Murray, who suffered a knee injury in the second half.

Albion were the better side in the first half, Palace in the second.

The Seagulls should probably have gone ahead on 20 minutes when Dean Hammond met Will Buckley’s perfect cross with a powerful header but sent it too close to Julian Speroni, who parried.

Hammond also flashed a shot across goal in the first half after a slick counter raid.

A nervous looking Palace side struggled to bring their fans off their seats although the recalled Jonny Williams shot wide of the far post from the edge of the box.

Palace, though, were the better side after switching Wilfried Zaha to the left flank at half-time.

He flashed a low cross across goal to which neither Jonny Williams nor Glenn Murray could get a touch.

And Tomasz Kuszczak had to be at his best to keep out a Danny Gabbidon header from Owen Garvan’s free-kick.

Murray was later stretchered off with what looked a twisted knee.
