David Lopez could make a quick return to the Championship after just 45 minutes of pre-season action.
Head coach Oscar Garcia has confirmed the midfielder is in contention for a role at Leeds on Saturday.
David played the first half of the 1-1 draw with Norwich City on Tuesday after flying in the previous morning to sign a one-year deal.
He has followed a fitness regime in Spain and impressed Oscar with his physical condition.
The Seagulls boss said: “He told me he was practising at home.
“He is really good. For me it was a big surprise that he is fit enough to play 45 minutes at a good level against a Premier League team. He is the kind of player who will not need many practices to be fit enough to play.”
Oscar, who remains on the hunt for reinforcements, is happy with what David will bring to his squad.
He added: “I know David from when he played in Spain. I know he is a good technical player who can help us a lot.
“I know what he did last season.”
