Albion defender Adam El-Abd’s hopes of going to the World Cup finals with Egypt are all but over after the Pharaohs lost 6-1 in the first leg of their play-off with Ghana.
Seagulls skipper Gordon Greer was an unused substitute as Scotland won 2-0 at home to Croatia.
Fellow defender Vitalijs Maksimenko started for Latvia as they drew 2-2 at home to Slovakia in Group G.
