Albion are assessing the next step for Shamir Fenelon after he was recalled from his loan spell at Rochdale.

The 20-year-old striker moved to Spotland on a season-long deal at the end of August but had struggled for playing time at the League One outfit.

He will now resume training with Sami Hyypia’s squad and could go out on loan again.

Albion’s head of football operations David Burke said Fenelon, who impressed Hyypia in pre-season, had been a victim of circumstances at Rochdale.

Burke said: “On the back of a good pre-season we had a number of league clubs enquire about Sham but unfortunately the move to Rochdale hasn’t proven as fruitful as we would have wanted.

“This is not down to Shamir. He has merely fallen victim to a side that are not only winning games and on good form, but also scoring a lot of goals, so it is hard to break into a successful team.

“But we will get him back on the training pitch here, get him fit again and we will see what the next move is - whether it is staying at the club or another loan move.”
