Millwall defender Alan Dunne is spot on when he says his side have one home horror show per season.

And that is why Albion must beware a Lions backlash at the Amex tomorrow night.

Dunne faced the press after his side crashed 5-1 at home to Middlesbrough on Saturday and expressed his team’s intention to put things right.

The message for the Seagulls is that they are usually as good as their word.

Millwall will head south aiming to follow up their recent 2-2 draw at Bournemouth, which kept the Cherries off top spot, by stretching their unbeaten away record to three games.

Last season Millwall were routed 5-1 at the Den by Derby but won 3-1 at home to Blackpool in their next match. They then went away to beat neighbours Charlton 1-0.

In 2012-13, Millwall’s home nightmare was a 5-1 midweek hammering by Peterborough, who were relegated at the end of the season. Their response was a 2-1 win at Middlesbrough.

The Lions’ biggest home humbling in recent years was the 6-0 defeat to Birmingham City three years ago.

They were handed a great chance to bounce back with a home FA Cup draw against Dagenham and Redbridge, who they beat 5-0.

Kenny Jackett’s Lions then enjoyed a 3-1 league win at Burnley.

Millwall’s knack of bouncing back stretches back to their League One days. In 2008-09, they crashed 4-0 at home to MK Dons before responding with a 3-1 success at Tranmere.

On the face of it, their only exception to the bounce-back rule was in 2010-11 when they were sunk 6-1 at the Den by Watford, then lost 2-1 at home to Ipswich in the Carling Cup a few days later.

Their next away fixture ended in a 2-1 defeat at Cardiff. But they still showed some backbone, going 1-0 up and only losing in the last minute when they were down to ten men.

Perhaps all that explains why Ian Holloway wants to tap into some old fashioned Millwall spirit tomorrow.

He has suggested he will look to tried and trusted Millwall players to battle an Albion side whose self-belief could be fragile.

The Lions boss said: “It’s Millwall – you want fight, you want a challenge.

“Some of the boys I’ve brought in have got to learn how to play for Millwall.”

Combative midfielder Jimmy Abdou could come back into the side and uncomplicated central defender Danny Shittu, who steadied things when he went on as sub against Boro, looks like starting.

Long-serving goalkeeper David Forde said: “I’ve experienced that sort of thing before.

“On those occasions we knuckled down and bounced back and, with the character in this squad, I fully expect us to do the same again.”
