Sami Hyypia insists he cannot blame the efforts put in by his players in their latest home defeat.

But he admits lack of quality sent them towards the 1-0 reverse by Millwall which left fans calling for him to leave the club.

Albion worked hard but lacked creativity in the final third as they strove to wipe out Lee Gregory's 14th-minute strike for the Lions.

Hyypia said: “It was a disappointing night. I don’t think the opposition had a lot of chances to score and they managed to score one. We didn’t manage to score from our situations.

"I think at the begnning we were, I don't know, a bit sloppy or a bit not in the game, but I can't blame the effort again.

"It looks a little bit like we lacked the little extra quality."

Hyypia said he was not worried about reaction to him by many disgruntled fans.

He added: “I can understand the fans are unhappy. I don’t expect them to pat me on the shoulder and say well done. I think the fans during the game were okay. They supported the team.

“When they start to be negative during the game it makes things even worse.”

Hyypia expects to be in communication soon with chairman Tony Bloom.

He said: "Straight after a game like this, the emotions are running very high. When we have a few days we will see what the outcome is.

“I speak to him almost every other day so I guess I continue speaking to him every other day after this as well.”
