Nathan Jones admitted he was proud of his Albion players after a battling 2-2 draw at home to Reading.

The Seagulls recovered from going a goal down after 38 seconds and two behind after 26 minutes to earn a point thanks to Inigo Calderon’s 90th-minute equaliser.

Jones was in caretaker charge for the game following the resignation of Sami Hyypia on Monday.

He admitted after the match he did not know whether he would be at the helm for Monday’s trip to Fulham.

The man who was assistant to both Oscar Garcia and Hyypia was upset with the way Albion started the game but pleased with how his charges fought back to earn a point.

Jones said: “It is mixed emotions. I am disappointed, I wanted to win the game. I felt in the 90 minutes we did enough to win the game but just with the start we had it kind of killed us.

“That said the second half was a massive positive, the players gave me everything in the second half. We got the Amex rocking, the commitment and desire they showed was excellent.

“With the chances we had we should have won that game. We had the chances, the possession.”

Former Albion striker Glenn Murray put Reading in control with two first-half strikes.

Jake Forster-Caskey levelled before half-time and Calderon capped a fine second half display from the hosts with a late leveller.

Jones added: ““The disappointing thing is we shot ourselves in the foot with two bad goals and they were bad goals, (to concede) in the first minute is bad and then from a set-piece which we pride ourselves on.

“Apart from that they gave me everything and I’m proud. I’m proud of an Albion team that I set out and they gave me everything.”
