A WOMAN is lucky to be alive after thugs lobbed a boulder through the window of her fast-moving car.

Police are hunting a pair of youths who targeted the 40-year-old's vehicle from a footbridge as she was driving along the M8.

Miraculously, the woman, who has not been named, escaped with a serious gash on her arm but she was left severely shaken by her ordeal.

She was driving between junctions 9 and 10 of the fast lane when she noticed the boys on the Lochbridge footbridge in Easterhouse.

Moments later a large piece of concrete smashed through her windscreen, striking her left arm before landing in the rear passenger seat of the Honda civic.

She was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where she had surgery on her arm.

Strathclyde Police are carrying out door-to-door enquiries and checking CCTV footage.

Extra police and community wardens will be stationed on and around the footbridge following the incident which happened on Wednesday at around 4.30pm.

The Lochbridge footpath is located near to Halliburton Road in Easterhouse.

The two youths are described as 13 to 15 years of age and 5ft to 5ft 6in tall.

One had light brown hair, the other had dark hair and both were wearing dark clothing.

DS McIntyre from Easterhouse CID, who is leading the investigation, said: "This was a completely mindless act which could have had fatal consequences if the concrete had landed a different way on the lady or if she had passengers in the car.

"What if a child had been strapped in the back seat.

"Not to mention the fact she has had to stop her car on the fast lane of the M8 which could have caused a very serious collision.

"It is only by good fortune we are not investigating a fatal road crash today."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Easterhouse CID on 0141 532 4316 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, where information can be given anonymously.
