ALBION'S hopes of signing Alireza Jahanbakhsh last night appeared to have been placed under threat.

The Seagulls have agreed a fee for the NEC Nijmegen star, who was also known to be assessing options in other countries.

But the Iranian winger’s representative Amir Hashemi told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf of doubts as to whether it was the right move.

Hashemi said: “Brighton wanted a quick decision. However, Ali has time to think about his future. He might think differently about there in four weeks but at the moment he can absolutely not say yes.”

Meanwhile Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh has dismissed talk of an Albion bid for his star striker Cody McDonald.

And representatives of former Celtic target man Morten Rasmussen have declined to comment on a report linking their client with three Championship sides, including the Seagulls.

The experienced 30-year-old, 6ft 1in striker has scored three goals in ten games for Denmark.

He is currently on the books of FC Midtjylland, where he has one year left to run on his current contract.

Albion are keen to exploit the European market as they look for value for money in the summer market.
