Albion are halfway there – at best – in terms of rebuilding their squad for the new season.

Manager Chris Hughton admits there is still plenty of recruitment work to do as his side prepare to kick off their domestic friendlies.

New goalkeeper Niki Maenpaa could get a first outing in the Seagulls’ private workout against Southampton today.

Gaetan Bong, Tomer Hemed and Liam Rosenior, below, have already enjoyed game time.

But Hughton looks forward to further business being completed.

He told The Argus: “We still need to supplement the squad.

“We need a nice competitive squad.

“We lost eight players at the end of last season and we have now brought four in.

“We still want and need to strengthen and we are working towards that.”

Hughton expects striker Hemed to make a successful transition from Spanish football to the Championship.

He said: “Tomer has to be able to adapt to the competitive nature of the division but we take care judging these things in the recruitment process.”

An attacking wide player is now likely to be among Hughton’s main transfer targets.

The Seagulls are believed to have enquired about Blackburn star Ben Marshall last week and can expect to be linked with several wingers as summer business gathers pace.
