Dale Stephens admitted Albion could have no excuses as they lost 2-0 at Rotherham.

And he included himself in that after wasting a one-on-one when he should have dragged them level.

The midfielder told The Argus: “I had probably the best chance of the game and it’s something I should do better with.

“I think I was clipped just on my heel as I went to shoot but I’m not looking for an excuse. I should still score.”

Stephens said Albion “did not apply ourselves correctly” in a poor first half showing.

He added: “There’s no excuse. We are not looking for excuses. We are looking for a way to put this behind us and it starts on Saturday.

“We have to apply ourselves in the correct manner and not replicate what happened (last night)”

Captain Gordon Greer limped off in the closing stages on his comeback from hamstring trouble. Boss Chris Hughton said: “If it’s just cramp then hopefully it’s not too bad.”
