Chris Hughton has rebuffed claims by Burnley boss Sean Dyche that his table-toppers exposed a flaw in Albion’s defending of set pieces.

Both Burnley goals in the 2-2 draw, by Andre Gray and Michael Keane in stoppage time, came from corners.

Dyche said “something like 26 per cent” of the goals conceded by Albion are from set plays and added: “We felt we could be strong in that area.”

Dale Stephens scored Albion’s first goal from a corner and Hughton gave Dyche’s verdict short shrift.

The Seagulls boss said: “It’s not frustration. We would do exactly the same, target a way that Burnley concede goals. We managed to score two goals against them, the team with the best record away from home, and create numerous chances.

“We went through a very good spell this season of not conceding from set plays, then we had a poor three or four games where we did, but then we got back.

“Remember, we are a team that had conceded one goal in the last six games. So any of that targeting, I don’t see that at all.”

Sam Baldock is expected to miss tomorrow night’s trip to Hughton’s old club Birmingham with a recurrence of hamstring trouble but Bruno, forced off by cramp in the closing stages, has a chance of maintaining his ever-present record this season in the Championship.
