Albion are heading for a last-day decider after the Championship promotion race took another twist today.
The Seagulls won 3-1 at Charlton while Middlesbrough were held 0-0 at home by Ipswich.
That leaves the top three level on points going into the last two rounds of fixtures.
Albion had to hold their nerve on an afternoon of protests at the Valley.
They saw recalled Sam Baldock’s close-range early opener cancelled out by Johann Berg Gudmundsson six minutes into the second half.
But Jiri Skalak curled superbly into the top corner just four minutes later after great work by Beram Kayal to tee him up.
Middlesbrough’s result had filtered through to fans packed in behind Charlton’s goal by the time Tomer Hemed rolled home a penalty deep into eight minutes of added time, pictured above, to calm any nerves.
The one setback for the Seagulls was the sight of Liam Rosenior limping off in the second half.
