Beram Kayal has finally been recognised as a stand-out performer - by Albion fans.

Supporters have voted the influential Israeli midfielder their player of the season.

Kayal was overlooked by rival managers and his fellow professionals in the Football League Awards for the Championship and the PFA’s team of the season.

Bruno was the only Albion player selected for both but fans have bucked the trend by making Kayal their favourite, just ahead of the Spanish defender.

Kayal’s victory was announced last night at the players’ awards dinner at the Amex.

The former Celtic player polled 41 per cent of the votes, five per cent more than Bruno.

Goalkeeper David Stockdale made the podium on 14 per cent, clear of top scorer Tomer Hemed on four per cent.

The only surprise was the omission from the top four of Kayal’s midfield partner Dale Stephens, chosen by managers as the sixth-best player in the Championship.

Connor Goldson was picked by the coaching staff as young player of the season.

Goal of the season went to Jiri Skalak’s explosive strike against QPR last week after voting was re-opened.
