Albion boss Chris Hughton has revealed plans to sign another full-back.

He wants cover for Bruno, Liam Rosenior and Gaetan Bong following a departure from the fringes of the squad, central defender Glen Rea completing a long-touted permanent move to Luton Town.

Hughton told The Argus: “We would like one more (full-back). We have three players in two positions and flexibility with Liam, but we need another one.

“It depends which way we go. If we bring in a centre-half that can play full-back, or a midfielder, that would suffice.

“We certainly need to have cover in both full-back positions. It is not desperate for us, we’ve got the whole of the (transfer) window to determine that. It might be a loan, although we are trying to avoid that kind of arrangement as much as possible.”

Long-serving Inigo Calderon was released at the end of last season after left-back Bong spent much of it sidelined by serious thigh damage. By the time Bong recovered, towards the end of the campaign, the versatile Rosenior was holding down the position.

Hughton said: “I am looking forward to seeing Gaetan. He missed a chunk of the season and then found it hard to get back in. It will be like a new signing. You forget how good he was.”

Rea, who spent the last two months of last season on loan to Luton, has rejoined the League Two outfit for good for an undisclosed fee on a two-year contract.

The Republic of Ireland under-21 international is reunited in Bedfordshire with manager Nathan Jones, the former Albion coach, and goalkeeper Christian Walton, who signed for the Hatters last week on a season-long loan.

Hughton is intent on adding another central defender to compete with Lewis Dunk, Connor Goldson and Uwe Huenemeier after releasing captain Gordon Greer, so Rea’s prospects of game time were bleak.

Albion’s first home league game of the season against Nottingham Forest has been brought forward a day to Friday August 12 (7.45pm) for live Sky TV coverage.
