Albion boss Chris Hughton has refused to rule David Stockdale out of making a rapid recovery for Rotherham's visit tomorrow night.
The left shin injury suffered by the Seagulls' No.1 against Nottingham Forest three days ago is not as bad as initially feared.
The results of a scan today will have a bearing on how soon Stockdale will be fit.
Hughton said: "He's a lot better than we first thought. It's very much a soft tissue injury, in effect a kick.
"It was very sore at the time and it will be about pain management, how quickly he can get the all-clear.
"Knowing Stocko I think it will be touch-and-go. We haven't ruled him out of anything."
Hughton has, however, ruled Connor Goldson out of both the Rotherham game and Saturday's trip to Reading as the centre-half continues his recovery from pre-season medial knee ligament damage.
Former Albion utlity player Greg Halford is sidelined for Rotherham by a groin tear.
