ALBION are unlikely to stage Chris Eubank Jr’s ‘superfight’ with George Groves.

The Amex has been shortlisted by World Boxing Super Series promoters to stage the semi-final showdown between Brighton’s Eubank and Groves.

But the January or February date could be KO’d by the Premier League Seagulls as impractical.

Chief executive Paul Barber said: “We are open minded, because obviously we want to support Chris and consider all parts of the community when it comes to use of the stadium – but only if it makes sense from a football point of view.

“It all comes down to timing and the use of the pitch. At that time of the year is the worst possible time. It’s the wettest part of the year and anything that gets put on top of the pitch has the potential to cause damage.

“Football is our priority and we wouldn’t do anything that would jeopardise our playing surface halfway through the season.”

Fulham’s Craven Cottage is the frontrunner to stage the fight.
