Chris Hughton has backed Lewis Dunk after he suffered a tough day in front of the England manager.
Gareth Southgate was in the crowd as Albion lost 2-0 at Huddersfield.
He saw Steve Mounie spin and lose marker Dunk at a corner to put the hosts 1-0 up.
Dunk was unable to cut out the cross from Aaron Mooy which led to Mounie’s second.
Asked if he would tell Southgate that the afternoon was not representative of Dunk’s season, Hughton replied: "Yes I would. Dunky's been very good for us all season.
“Not only that he's a player that has developed very well over the last few seasons, become more mature, he's very aware of the qualities he's got.
“All you can ask is an improvement over the years and that he certainly has done.”
Dunk later made a key challenge on the goalbound Tom Ince as Huddersfield chased a third goal.
Hughton added: "Everybody is going to make an assessment of the game and I don't think I could look at any of our players and say there was a particular player that stood out and had that good a game.
“We weren't good enough today and that includes all of us, myself included."
