Gaetan Bong has urged Albion to turn their Newcastle stalemate into a very good point – by beating Bournemouth.
The Seagulls left-back believes a win over the Cherries on New Year’s Day will leave them looking back on a successful weekend.
Bong was part of an impressive defensive unit as Albion drew 0-0 at St James’ Park.
He told The Argus: “I think we can be happy with the point.
“Now we just need to be focussed on the next game.
“I thought we were very good but it is a point.
“We still have a lot of games and every point is massive for us.
“If we have a win (against Bournemouth), Newcastle will be a very, very good point for us.”
Bong highlighted the way Albion kept the ball in the first half – and rode out a brisk start to the second period by Newcastle.
The returning left-back said: “In the first half we had the ball and controlled the game totally.
“In the second half we came back out and we knew it was going to be hard.
“They were pushing but we stayed solid because we knew what they would do.
“They were playing at home and we knew after half-time they would come at us a little more angry and upset because I would not accept to play at home and get turned like that.”
He added: “We were good on the ball, we just needed one goal to win the game.”
