Jose Izquierdo said he made the wrong decision when glory beckoned.

And it was just one of the moments Albion were left to rue after losing a match they could have won.

Izquierdo was a great outlet in behind Leicester full-back Danny Simpson.

And the Amex rose when he was sent clear in the second half with Glenn Murray and Jurgen Locadia racing to get into the box.

The low cross was on – but Izquierdo kept possession, cut inside and was smothered by some excellent defending from Harry Maguire.

Izquierdo spoke about the incident after the match.

And, without prompting, he was very self-critical in saying he should have been more aware of what was going on inside him.

He told The Argus: “I tried to get into spaces but I couldn’t finish things off well.

“I don’t think I took correct decisions.

“I always try to help the team and there was one when, above all, I was just thinking about shooting at goal.

“I shot but in that chance, I could have passed the ball to Glenn.

“Unfortunately, I didn’t lift my head and the chance went.

“You have two options. You either go one against one or you get your head up and pass.

“In that moment, I was just thinking about going one against one.”

The moment bore similarities to an attack which ended without success when Albion were 2-1 up at home to Bournemouth on New Year’s Day.

Izquierdo said: “If it goes in, you’re the hero but those are the decisions you take when you’re on the pitch.

“This time I got the decision wrong but we keep working.

“It was a match not to lose – and we lost it.”

Maguire also got in a great covering challenge on Izquierdo, after a one-two with Pascal Gross in the first half.

But the Colombian was brought down by Maguire for the penalty which should have put Albion in front.

He said there were no doubts about referee Chris Kavanagh’s decision.

The winger added: “Yes, it was a foul. I got to the ball and he played me. It was a penalty.

“We created chances but that is football. When you don’t score you pay the price.
