Jose Izquierdo believes his prize-winning strike against West Ham was Albion’s most important goal of the season.

The Colombian international still maintains his curler at the Amex, voted the Seagulls’ goal of the season, was NOT his best this campaign.

He preferred the calm finish to a crisp team move in the 1-1 draw at Stoke City a week later.

But he told The Argus: “Maybe people voted for the West Ham goal because we won.

“It was an important match, we had been pulled back level and there wasn’t much danger at either end or any sign that one team would win.

“That goal changed the whole game, it broke the whole thing open and gave us motivation to see the game through.

“It was a really important moment and I think that is why people voted for that.”

The 3-1 success over the Hammers kicked off a run of ten points from four games which culminated in the 2-1 win over Arsenal and chants around the Amex of “We are staying up.”

Izquierdo said: “That win (over West Ham) helped us a lot, gave us a lot of motivation and we expressed ourselves more in the following matches.

“The happiest you can be is when you score and the team win.”
