Mathew Ryan has revealed why he believes he is playing the best football of his life.

The Albion goalkeeper reckons weekly tests by forwards among the best in the game have sharpened him up.

He is confident he earned the Seagulls points towards their Premier League haul of 40.

Ryan is now hoping to “ride that wave” with the Australian squad for the World Cup finals in Russia.

Asked why he felt he had raised his game since his move from Valencia, Ryan told The Argus: “A big part of it is the consistency I have shown at this level with what you come up against every week.

“It’s my first full season playing in a top league, the highest level against some of the best clubs and players in the world.

“I just look at some of the saves I’ve been making.

“Strikers are judged on goals and goalkeepers are judged on saves.

“I think on more occasions than not I have been able to better for the ream and contribute and take a few points, which is always important for a football side.”

Ryan believes the season was his best yet in the game.

He added: “I want to ride that wave into the World Cup.”

Albion’s goalkeeper situation is at a crossroads with Tim Krul and Niki Maenpaa out of contract and Christian Walton returning from a successful loans tint at Wigan.

Pau Lopez, the Espanyol keeper in whom Albion were interested last season, is set to leave the Catalan club with Real Betis believed to be his likely destination.
