Gus Poyet is poised to treat the Carling Cup more seriously this season.
Albion have been drawn at home to Gillingham in the first round in what could be the first evening match at The Amex in the week commencing August 8.
The Albion boss fielded a below-strength side in last season’s first round defeat at Northampton.
“It could change from last year, because it was very important to go up,” Poyet said. “We will probably pay more attention to it than last year.”
The tie against Gills is potentially the first night game at the new stadium, depending on possible TV interest in their opening Championship fixture, which is expected to be at home.
The fixtures are out this morning but Sky and the BBC will not announce which matches they will show on the first weekend of the season until later this month.
