Craig Noone reckons he could be the answer to Albion’s penalty nightmare.

The former Plymouth winger scored from the spot in yesterday’s 3-0 friendly victory at Burgess Hill.

The Seagulls had a dreadful penalty record in League One last season. Ashley Barnes and departed trio Glenn Murray, Elliott Bennett and Chris Wood all failed from 12 yards.

First-half goalscorer Barnes was not on the pitch when Noone was brought down in the box after the break, so he stepped up to double the lead. Noone said: “It’s the manager’s decision. I am happy to do it. I have taken them before at Plymouth and I am confident about taking them. We have signed a few players and they might fancy them as well.”

Noone missed the target in a penalty shoot-out after the match. “I was a bit tired by then,” he joked. “I scored the one that mattered during the game.”

Noone, bought in January for £300,000, is excited by the prospect of his first full season with Albion in the Championship.

“It speaks for itself the direction the club is going in with the players we have signed,” he said. “The manager is talking about bringing more in and it is just going from strength to strength.”
