Will Hoskins has pledged there will be no stopping him with Albion in the Championship.

Hoskins upstaged £2.5 million partner Craig Mackail-Smith with a debut goal as the Seagulls opened their programme of friendlies with a 3-0 win at Burgess Hill.

The versatile striker was prolific for relegated Bristol Rovers in League One last season after struggling to make an impact in the Championship at Watford.

Hoskins told The Argus: “I played a lot of Championship football with Rotherham as well, so I got a feel for it before I went to Watford. I know the league and I know I can do it in this league, there is no doubt about that.

“The way it happened at Watford is how things go sometimes.

“I took that step (to Bristol) to show what I am all about and I proved it and now I’ll prove it again. There is no stopping me.”

Hoskins was Gus Poyet’s first summer signing for £500,000, before Albion splashed out £1 million on former Watford team-mate Will Buckley and a club record for Peterborough marksman Mackail-Smith.

Poyet said: “He is an intelligent player. Some people, because of the quantity of money we have spent on different players, have forgotten about Will.

“I think he is going to be a very important part of our season.”

Poyet was also pleased with Mackail-Smith’s second half performance. He looked lively and went close to scoring on a couple of occasions.

“He is always going to be available, always on the run,” Poyet said. “That is why he is always going to get chances and score so many. He is difficult to stop.”

Poyet expects to have more new faces on board by the time Albion head for Portugal on Sunday.

“We are missing four or five,” he added. “We are working on it. I think this week we are going to have two or three which is great, because then we will take them to Portugal with us.

“I hope we can get the last one or two as soon as possible when we come back.”
