Gus Poyet admits his Albion squad cannot wait for their first run out at The Amex today.

The Seagulls set foot on the fresh turf this afternoon for a first ever training session at their new home ground.

But Poyet reckons they would be out there first thing this morning if they were allowed.

The Albion boss said: “I’ve had to put a rule in place that we cannot go until 1.30pm. If they could, the players would be there three hours early.

“We’ll get them over there after morning training, get in the dressing room, have a chat and go out at 2pm.

“It’s going to be like a school trip. They are all excited. The sooner we go out there, the better. But we won’t go out there every day because we want the pitch in the best possible shape for the Sussex Senior Cup final.”

Albion’s development squad play Eastbourne Borough before a sell-out 10,000 crowd on Saturday afternoon.

The Seagulls continue their pre-season programme against Horsham at Worthing tomorrow, when trialist defender Curtis Osano will again play.

Poyet still expects to have new faces on board this week. He said: “Trying to be sensible I’d say two (signings) probably. We are speaking to many people and working very hard.”

Long-time Albion target Kazenga LuaLua is being linked with a move to Huddersfield but the Newcastle winger is not believed to feature among the Terriers’ top targets.
