ALBION want to make up to four more signings before the season starts.

New faces could be added to the squad this week while the Seagulls are in Portugal, although that would not be ideal for manager Gus Poyet.

Poyet said: “It can happen. It would be a little more difficult, because normally I like to meet the player and talk to the player. Over the phone is not the same.

“If I was a player I would like to meet with the manager face-to-face. I like face-to-face because I’ve got nothing to hide and it’s easier to see the reaction of the player.” Poyet still wants a centre half, one or two midfielders and a striker to supplement the captures of Craig Mackail-Smith, Kazenga LuaLua, Will Hoskins, Will Buckley, Romain Vincelot and Roland Bergkamp.

One of the midfielders will not be Loic Damour, the 20-year-old Frenchman who impressed in a holding role in Friday night’s friendly against Whitehawk.

Poyet said: “He is a very good player. The problem is we are looking for a different type of midfield player.

“It’s not about being a good player but the player you are looking for. I am sure other managers would sign him.”

Fellow Frenchman Vincelot has been signed after a trial with Albion 18 months ago and Poyet has not ruled out something similar happening with Damour.

“We are saying right now no but remember what happened with Vincelot? The situation with Loic is the same.

“He did very well when he trained with us but I am not looking for somebody in the position he plays...”

Poyet has also cooled his interest in Finnish international midfielder Alexei Eremenko. “We are not even in touch,” he said.
