ALBION will assess the walking wounded on their return from Portugal today as they prepare for the showpiece visit of Spurs to The Amex.

Kazenga LuaLua and Craig Mackail-Smith should be fit to face Harry Redknapp’s side in Saturday’s official opening of the new stadium but there are question marks over Inigo Calderon and assistant manager Mauricio Taricco.

LuaLua escaped any serious damage to the left ankle he broke at Hartlepool last season when he was stamped on by Olhanense centre-half Mauricio in Saturday night’s 2-1 defeat on The Algarve.

Relieved manager Gus Poyet said: “It looks like it was just a knock but it was scary. It looks like in Portugal now every time an English team is coming they need to kick you because they are trying to be stronger than you.

“We don’t kick anyone. They didn’t have one player injured but we nearly had Kazenga injured because of a disgraceful tackle. He went to really hurt him.”

Mackail-Smith (toe), Inigo Calderon (knee) and Taricco (shin) all missed the Olhanense match.

Right-back Calderon, who over-stretched in training, and Taricco, the victim of another bad tackle against Paris Saint-Germain last Wednesday, are giving Poyet most cause for concern.

“Craig is something that is going to be right in one or two days,” he said. “We will assess the problems with Tano and Calde when we get back to Brighton.

“It doesn’t look anything serious, another couple of days or three, but you never know. When you do the tests myabe something will come up, so we’ll wait and see.”

The majority of those involved against Olhanense are in pole position to play against Spurs.
